If you are interested in working on the Herb Cart, you must complete an Herb Cart Training, in addition to other preparations, described in more detail here. Once you have completed the training process, we welcome you to sign-up and serve at the various clinics we schedule throughout the year.

Distilling

Distilling Essential Oils and Flower Waters

Saturday, February 11th, 1-4:30pm

Atlanta, GA (exact location TBA)

Homestead Members $50 / Non-Homestead Members $60

Instructors: Lorna and Corinne Lee

Register at the Homestead

Essential Oils have a long and rich history of helping us disinfect, heal, and boost our moods. They’re kind of all the rage these days. But knowing where they come from and the process of creating them can help you understand why these oils are so valuable and ways to source them ethically and well.

We’re bustin’ out our shiny copper still to distill plant material into flower waters (hydrosols) and a weeeeeee bit of essential oil; you’ll be shocked how much plant it takes to create just a few milliliters of essential oil. We’ll also cover some essential oil basics as well as sourcing for oils and equipment if you want to distill your own oils at home! We hope to send you home with a little hydrosol of your own!

Seed Start and Swap!

Join us February 19th, from 2pm -5pm

Location: Trees Atlanta

FREE but RSVP required!

Email to reserve your spot.

The Grow a Row Program is an Herbalista Initiative focused on encouraging local urban farmers and agriculturalists to grow medicinal herbs!  We use a lot of plant material at our free clinics and would love nothing more than for a majority of that sourcing to be from our local community!  Join other farmers and urban gardeners with an interest in medicinal herb growing.  We will share more about our growing program with you, sharing the resources and materials we have compiled for herbs that grow well in our region!

We will also be setting up seed starts to send home with you for your gardens. All the herbs we will be focusing on are herbs that the Herbalista Free Clinic uses in abundance and have practical and safe applications for even the kitchen herbalist!  We hope you can join us!

The art of Herbal Medicine Making is both a science and an art.  It can be as simple as brewing a cup of tea or as complex as the multi-stepped production of a fluid extract. The more skills you acquire, the greater will be your options as an herbalist to offer the appropriate remedy to satisfy your patient’s needs.  Building on the basics of Maceration and Decoctions, we will turn our attention to the art of Percolation which will open the door to Fluid Extraction.  If time allows, we will cut a couple percolation cones to show you how easy they are to make.percolation

**Please bring green Perrier or similar bottles to cut to make your own percolation bottle. I will bring my cutter.  This could be a lunchtime or post class activity. This way you will have percolation materials to take home.

Herbal teas will be provided at all the one day workshops. Please pack a bag lunch.
